Occupational Outlook Handbook

United States Department of Labor

The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) is appropriate for grades 7-12.  Information, which is contained in the OOH, is descriptions of various careers, job outlook, and projected salary ranges.  Its primary use is a student or parent resource to be used for career exploration, career development, or a more broadly a career information center.  This resource can also be used as a tool for classroom guidance activities for grades 7-12.

The OOH is a national publication and its data is compiled by a government entity, therefore from a reliable source.  It is very comprehensive and easy for most students with minimal computer skills to navigate through.

This site should not replace career exploration, but be used as a tool with or as a supplement to career guidance.  Since the OOH is extremely accessible for the students to us on their own, it will ultimately free up counselor time which can be used for other important guidance and counseling responsibilities.

Middle school students with low reading levels may have some difficulty comprehending the information without appropriate assistance.  If the information is not accessible due to a disability you can contact the labstat.helpdesk@bls.gov via email.   You can request the desired format or have the desired format sent to you.

Users can send and receive email fro this site and receive feedback when necessary.
